Ingredients
Scale
- 40 Saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Step 2: Arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
- Step 3: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil, then let it boil for an additional 3 minutes without stirring.
- Step 4: Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully stir in the vanilla powder. Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the Saltine crackers, spreading it out gently to cover all the crackers.
- Step 5: Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, until bubbly. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.
- Step 6: In a small bowl, mix together granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the melted chocolate layer before allowing everything to cool completely at room temperature or in the fridge. Once set, break into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
- For optimal storage, keep your Churro Saltine Toffee in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the fridge for longer freshness. If you prefer a warm treat, gently reheat individual pieces in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds to soften the chocolate without melting it completely. Serve these delightful treats with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an indulgent dessert experience. When making the caramel, be sure to keep a close eye on it as it can go from perfectly bubbly to burnt quickly; stirring continuously helps to create a smooth texture and prevent sticking.
